Texas Hot Sauce Inspired by Matlock

Put the “Hot” in the Hot Dog!

A certain Atlanta attorney would get out his guitar and sing “Deep in the Heart of Texas” after chowing down on this hot dog topper! Yes, we believe this would get the Matlock seal of approval. Case closed!

Texas Hot Sauce

Recipe by: Kate Wood of Wood & Spoon

Prep Time: 15

Cook Time: 30

Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

1/2 lb ground hamburger

1 yellow onion, finely chopped

1 can tomato soup

1/2 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp ground mustard

1/8 tsp ground cloves

1-1/2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp chili powder

1/4 tsp red pepper

2 bay leaves

5 shots of Tabasco sauce

Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Brown hamburger and onion in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Immediately reduce heat and allow to simmer on low heat for 15 minutes, or until thickened slightly.
  3. Serve immediately or freeze for up to 6 months.

Notes:

  • Add additional Tabasco for extra heat, if desired.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted.
