John Wayne and Geraldine Page star, along with an appearance by James Arness, in this fan-favorite classic. Based on a Louis L’Amour story and nominated for two Oscars, Hondo is at once a tale of harsh life on the frontier and a love story. Hondo Lane, an Army dispatch rider and well-known gunslinger, comes upon Angie Lowe, a brave woman whose husband abandoned her and her young son, Johnny. Angie lives in peace on Apache land, but now the chief, realizing she has no husband, demands that she marry an Indian and raise her son in the Apache ways. Hondo becomes her protector and the two fall for each other. But a complicated love life is the least of their problems, when the Apache launch attacks on settlers as revenge for a broken treaty. Strong performances all around, with solid storytelling that sticks close to L’Amour’s original book.
