Everyone knows the story of Daniel Boone, the explorer, the trailblazer, the visionary who discovered and opened passages to the west. The real Daniel Boone left his family—Rebecca Boone, and their 10 children—for months, sometimes years, to complete his missions. In the mostly fictionalized TV series, Daniel Boone, the larger-than-life historical figure is portrayed as a family man, whose tracking, trapping, and trailblazing jobs keep him relatively close to home in Boonesborough. The show features just two children, Israel, and Jemima (Seasons 1 and 2 only). Daniel raises them with love, compassion, understanding, and firmness that will prepare them for harsh frontier life. In one episode, Daniel takes Israel into the wilderness to learn survival skills. Little does he know the boy will use them immediately, as Daniel is bitten by a snake, and it’s up to Israel to get help. Sometimes kids teach their fathers. In another episode, Israel gets caught sneaking back into the house after midnight, and claims he saw a murder. Daniel chalks it up to a tall tale—until the killer targets the young eyewitness.
