Good to the Last Drop!

It’s no myth that Theodore Roosevelt drank huge volumes of coffee, some say a gallon a day! But did T.R. coin the famous Maxwell House tagline, “Good to the Last Drop?”

The Cheek-Neal coffee company branded Maxwell House Coffee in 1915, using the tagline, “Good to the Last Drop,” a phrase nearly identical to the 1908 Coca-Cola slogan, “Good til the Last Drop.” In 1925, Cheek-Neal sold out to General Foods and during the 1930s, ads appeared claiming the catchy tagline was uttered with delight by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907 while sipping Maxwell House Coffee in Nashville. Later, the company retracted the endorsement, stating the slogan was written by a former president of General Foods. The iconic tagline is still used today.
