2. Big Jake (1971)

Sizzling chemistry alert! The Duke stars opposite (and we mean really opposite) the fiery Maureen O’Hara, with Richard Boone as a vicious outlaw. Martha McCandles, her family, and staff fall victim to a brutal outlaw gang led by vicious John Fain. After a murderous rampage on the McCandles’ ranch, Fain kidnaps Little Jake McCandles, and leaves a ransom note demanding one million dollars. Then they ride off into the desert, where even the army would rather not venture. Martha knows of only one man “harsh and unpleasant” enough to track the killers, dish out frontier justice, and save Little Jake—her estranged husband, the wealthy wanderer, businessman, and noted gunslinger, Big Jake McCandles, who hasn’t set foot on their prosperous ranch in a decade. Now, the hunt in on to rescue the grandson he never met.

Fun Fact

John Wayne’s sons, Patrick and Ethan star in Big Jake, and son Michael produced. Christopher Mitchum, son of actor Robert Mitchum also stars.
