While legendary mountain man Jim Bridger is regaling travelers with stories of his adventures, a young girl is bitten by a rattlesnake just outside the fort. As the deadly venom threatens her life, an impetuous doctor insists she can only be saved by amputating her arm. Before the doctor can operate, Bridger intervenes and tells the doctor of a Native American cure that may save her arm and her life. Years earlier, Bridger explains, he used the plant, called snakeroot, to save the life of his best friend. It’s a race against time as Bridger and the girl’s mother desperately search for the medicinal plant that may save the stricken girl.
