Preacher Julian Shay marries his young wife, Raysha, in Philadelphia. Not long afterward, he and his bride move to Driscoll, Montana. Julian hopes to spread the word of God in the lawless land known as the Wild West.

But frontier life is difficult and unforgiving, and Raysha sorely misses her home back East. Meanwhile, Julian tries to spread the good word while helping Sheriff Reese Scoby and the townspeople fight to get water rights that the rich Claver family want to keep for themselves.

Unfortunately, Raysha hates living in Driscoll and decides to leave Julian. The wild frontier is not for her, so she’s called an old boyfriend to come get her and bring her back home to Philadelphia.

This causes Julian, a man of God, to do the unthinkable. He follows them to a nearby town and decides to take his vengeance by shooting them both dead.

Unmoored and broken, Julian wanders around the West, unsure of where to go or what to do next. Along the way, he meets a farm widow named Laurie and her son, Nathan. Julian decides to help them run the farm for a while, even considering settling down there. But still, he wonders: will he ever find faith in God again?

Adventures loom ahead, but the townspeople of Driscoll still need help. When Sheriff Scoby finally tracks Will down, he begs him to come back with him and finish the fight to keep the Clavers from stealing all the water.

Now, will Preacher Shay answer the call—or is he too far gone for redemption?
