Cattle baron, George Washington “G.W.” McLintock, has his hands full. His wife, Katherine, left him for a high-society lifestyle in the city. Now she’s back, and wants a divorce, and their daughter Becky, who is about to return to the ranch after being away at school, to live with her permanently. This does not sit well with G.W., who adores his often-headstrong daughter. To make matters worse, Becky arrives with a new beau, the son of one of G.W.’s rivals. But when Becky meets the new ranch hand, Dev, sparks fly. What’s a doting dad to do? Why, offer some fatherly advice. He explains that many men will want to marry her for her money, but she’ll inherit only a 500-cow spread, about what he and Katherine had when they first married, while the rest of his land will become a national park.
“…I love you,” he tells her in a long heartfelt speech, “and I want you and some young man to have what I had, 'cause all the gold in the United States Treasury…can't equal what happens between a man and a woman with all that growin' together.”
