You Know My Name (1999)
In You Know My Name, Sam Elliott portrays real-life cowboy-turned-filmmaker Bill Tilghman, who rode with the Earp crew before resolving to make authentic Western movies such as 1915’s The Passing of Oklahoma Outlaws. A gun-slinging lawman during Prohibition, Tilghman attempts to restore order in an Oklahoma town run by the abusive, corrupt, and cocaine-fueled federal agent Wiley Lynn (Arliss Howard), though Tilghman would have rather been, at that point, focusing on his film career.
Why We Like It: “This gritty and mostly true story blends movie-making and upholding the law into one big adventure.”
