The Sacketts (1979)

The Sacketts is a two-part adaptation of Louis L’Amour’s novel The Warrior’s Path. Sam Elliott stars alongside Tom Selleck, again as brothers finding their way in the world after the Civil War. Tell (Elliott) and Orrin (Selleck) dream of building a family business once they find their missing younger brother, Tyrel (Jeff Osterhage). Along the way, they prospect for gold, learn to herd cattle with “a salty pair of cowpokes,” and work to bring order to a racially divided Santa Fe.

Why We Like It: “Since we love the power of family, we can’t resist placing this film in Sam’s top five.”
