5. Stagecoach (1939)
As much a thoughtful character study as it is a Western drama, Stagecoach stars John Wayne as outlaw Ringo Kid and Claire Trevor as Dallas, a brokenhearted saloon girl. Ringo and Dallas are among a motley group of passengers traveling West through Apache territory. Some have big dreams. Some have dark secrets. But all future plans are jeopardized when Geronimo goes on the warpath and the little band of strangers must fight for their survival.
This original version inspired two remakes, one in 1966 with Ann-Margret and Alex Cord, and another in 1986 with an all-star cast of country music stars, including Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson.
