1. Rio Lobo (1970)

John Wayne, Jennifer O’Neill, Victor French and Jack Elam star in a story of robbery, treason, and murder. Ex-Union Army Colonel Cord McNally entrusts the safety of the Union Army payroll train to his good friend, young Lt. Ned Forsythe. As the train rumbles on, rebel forces hijack the train, and a gun battle breaks out. The thieves get away with the gold, and in the melee, Lt. Forsythe is shot dead. McNally determines the robbery was an inside job. So now, he’s not only hunting down thieves and his best friend’s murderers, he’s after a traitor. He joins forces with his former enemy, ex-Confederate Captain Pierre Cordona—and all clues lead to Rio Lobo, where the outlaws have taken the town under their brutal control.

Why We Like It

“Directed by Howard Hawks, the film is consistently the most popular with our viewers. Wayne stars as Colonel Cord McNally, a Union officer, who teams up with a group of Confederate soldiers to take down a corrupt sheriff in the town of Rio Lobo.” – INSP programming team
