Robert Rogers: Frontier Soldier

In 1755, as war engulfs the colonies, Robert Rogers raises an elite militia in New Hampshire to fight French forces. He leads his ranger company, which comes to be known as Rogers’ Rangers, on dangerous reconnaissance missions and special operations far behind enemy lines. In time, word of his daring adventures makes him a celebrity throughout England and the colonies. But one mission will test Rogers’ men as never before—and nearly cost him his life. After a ruthless surprise raid on French and Indian forces in Canada, the rangers need to trek 200 miles on foot to the nearest British fort. For weeks, the rangers are chased by enemy forces, and the men, many of whom are wounded, can’t find anything to eat in the desolate wilderness. With his men facing starvation, Rogers develops an audacious plan to build a raft and float the last 60 miles down the turbulent Connecticut River to reach the fort, and return with food for the remaining men.
