A tragic mistake leaves an innocent man dead, but the people responsible refuse to accept accountability. When legal solutions fall short, a quiet small-town lawman decides to pursue justice himself, taking on a wealthy rancher and the armed men protecting him. What begins as a simple demand for fairness soon becomes a relentless pursuit across the frontier.

Burt Lancaster brings strength and determination to the title role, portraying a man underestimated by nearly everyone around him. Jon Cypher and Susan Clark help shape the conflict and personal stakes, as the story steadily builds toward a tense battle among conscience, power, and perseverance.
