Heroic Pony Express riders face deadly terrain, hostile Native Americans, and dangerous outlaws as they race from station to station to transport vital mail across 2,000 miles of untamed frontier. Though many of them are little more than boys, their life-and-death adventures become the stuff of legends. The often-overlooked station keepers who tend the horses and care for riders along the way face just as much danger as the riders in their isolated and unprotected cabins. In just 18 months of operation, the Pony Express makes 400 runs with only one lost delivery. Along the way, it unites the country and becomes an iconic part of America’s western lore.
