About
Starring John Wayne and Anthony Quinn! In this action-packed war drama, the Duke leads the Filipino resistance in the fight for freedom against the Japanese during World War II.
In March of 1942, American soldiers are struggling to maintain control over Bataan. But the battle is ferocious, their losses are great, and the outcome looks bleak. Despite all of this, Colonel Joseph Madden tries to encourage his friend, Captain Andres Bonifacio, not to give up.
Captain Bonifacio, the grandson of a well-loved Filipino freedom fighter, has a good reason to be discouraged. It seems that his girlfriend, Dalisay Delgado, has become a Japanese collaborator spouting propaganda over the airwaves.

But not everything is what it seems. When Madden is later chosen for a secret mission to recruit and lead Filipino guerillas against the Japanese, he discovers that Dalisay is a double agent working for the Americans. However, he is sworn to secrecy and cannot tell anyone… especially Bonifacio.
After Madden and his men meet up with another group of Filipino resistance fighters, they run into an American teacher named Bertha Barnes. She and her students are distraught because their principal was hanged by the Japanese after refusing to take down the school’s American flag. Now, they too want to join the fight for freedom.
Meanwhile, Colonel Madden and his guerillas head out to destroy a Japanese gas depot when they come across the Bataan Death March. That’s when it hits them: Bataan has fallen, and the Japanese are now in control.
Among the prisoners is Captain Bonifacio. When Madden sees that his men are discouraged and ready to give up, he puts a plan in motion to liberate Bonifacio from the death march. The Filipino guerillas are inspired and glad to save the grandson of their national hero and they carry out their mission with great bravery. Soon, Bonifacio is with them, fighting by their side.
Over the next year together, this team overcomes many obstacles and completes many missions. They destroy Japanese strongholds, break up supply depots, disrupt military airstrips, and more.
When and if the Japanese find them, many heroes will die – including men, women, and children. What keeps them going is General Douglas MacArthur’s vow to come back someday with American troops and oust the Japanese for good.
But right now, Madden wonders…will someday ever come?
