About
Catch Clint Eastwood in one of his earliest starring roles. Made when he was just 27 years old, Clint Eastwood shines in this film that gave moviegoers an early indication that this young actor just might be a star someday.
It’s 1867, and the Indian Wars are raging out West. Having survived an ambush by Indians, the four remaining soldiers in the Seventh Cavalry, led by Sergeant Matt Blake. escort a prisoner named Corbin and his cache of guns to Fort Waverly. His crime? Selling repeating rifles to the Apache.
A short time later, the Cavalrymen run into a band of former Confederate soldiers who start shooting at them. Luckily, Sergeant Blake negotiates a truce with their leader, ex-Confederate Colonel Sam Prescott. This angers Prescott’s second in command, Keith Williams, who says that “all Yankees are liars.”
But it’s a long way to Fort Waverly, and with so many Apache determined to take the shipment of rifles at any cost, the two sides decide they must work together. Nobody is sure that they want to, but there is no other option.
During the attack, the Apache stole their horses, so the long trek to the Fort is on foot. They’re low on water and food, but they’ve got plenty of rifles and ammunition to protect themselves, as Apache warriors are hot on their trail.
Their situation grows more desperate by the hour, and they realize they’ll have to catch the Apache by surprise if they hope to survive. If their gamble goes wrong, it means certain death and the powerful repeating rifles would fall into Apache hands. Now, on the slim chance their plan will work, they muster up all the grit and determination they have and prepare for the fight of their lives.
