5: Thin Ice (2009)

Thin Ice (2009)

Thin Ice is the fifth of the nine Jesse Stone movies. This story takes Jesse back to big city crime as he and Captain Healy leave Paradise to go on a dangerous (not exactly authorized) stakeout in Boston, where they both get shot. Healy is seriously hurt, and Stone sets out to find the shooter, but now the Paradise Town Council threatens to fire him, and he’s also under investigation by the Boston Police Internal Affairs Department—as if those minor career-ending bumps in the road would deter Jesse Stone! Soon he finds himself navigating a dark underworld of crime. And if you think his plate is overflowing, a mother whose child was kidnapped and declared dead receives a mysterious letter implying her child is still alive, and she wants Jesse to reopen the cold case. Though this movie is not directly based on one of the mystery novels in the Jesse Stone series by Robert B. Parker (1932-2012), the characters stay true to Parker’s depiction. The dialogue is as sharp as Parker would have written it.

Fun trivia or Quote:

A tale of two Greenstreets. The Internal Affairs investigator’s name is Sidney Greenstreet, the same as the great actor Sydney Greenstreet, who starred in the noir film The Maltese Falcon and the wartime drama Casablanca both with Humphrey Bogart.
