A Walton Wedding

John-Boy is in love—again! But this time it just might last. While living and writing in New York City, he finds his true love, his soul mate, the one woman who complements him completely. Janet Gilchrist is the editor of a glossy fashion magazine, so like John-Boy, she understands deadline pressure. Unlike John-Boy, she knows when to take a break. One day, she shows up at his apartment to force him to stop and eat a meal, and John-Boy complies, but he has something else on his mind. He asks Janet to marry him. Now the country boy with a large mountain family and the sophisticated city girl with, an only child with few relatives must plan a wedding. As one might expect, they have very different ideas on what they want for the church, the reception and the honeymoon, but they agree on a small wedding. Janet’s enthusiastic Aunt Flo has other plans, and she soon takes over, bombarding the couple with “concepts” for a grand, elegant affair, starting with a ceremony at a huge cathedral.

Meanwhile, back on the mountain, John finds himself in the middle of what is becoming a contentious political dispute over land development, and Olivia registers at Boatwright University to pursue her degree.

At work, John-Boy presents his editor with an article about Grandma Walton’s life after suffering a stroke. The editor likes the idea, but feels he should dig deeper into Grandma’s past, and she suggests John-Boy return to the mountain for inspiration and research. So he goes to Janet’s apartment. When Aunt Flo pops in on John-Boy and Janet during a romantic moment, spouting more wedding ideas, and later hires a wedding planner who recommends a Virginia fox hunt-themed wedding, John-Boy has had enough. He heads south.

John-Boy dives into his research on Grandma’s past, but finds a suspicious gap in her history. When he asks her to clarify, she becomes angry and leaves the room. What could she be hiding? What dark secret could be so painful that the mere mention of it causes her to refuse to attend her grandson’s wedding?

On a whim, Janet takes time off from work, escaping her aunt’s incessant wedding plans, and shows up on the Waltons’ doorstep. But she is not to get any rest. A day later, the irrepressible Aunt Flo arrives in grand style!

As the wedding day draws nearer, John-Boy and Janet disagree more and more, and even John and Olivia wonder whether or not they will make it down the aisle.
