If Scrooge Were a Woman...
Bah! Humbug! And all that! The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet-to-Come are nowhere to be found in Dodge City this holiday season. So, it’s up to someone else to turn a mean-spirited woman’s heart from cruel to kind. Enter Miss Kitty!
Titus Spangler, the caretaker of a dismal Kansas orphanage, has been fired. He’s about to depart when he overhears the poor children talking about how Miss Grundy, the oppressive and cold-hearted headmistress, would not allow them a simple Christmas celebration. Moved by their laments, he gathers all seven orphans, and together, they make a run for it, hopping a train out of town! But with the weather turning frigid, food and provisions lacking, and one sick child, they only make it as far as Dodge City.
When Miss Grundy gets wind of the great escape, she sends a telegraph to Dodge, and upon arrival, Spangler is arrested for kidnapping. Knowing Miss Grundy will not be far behind to collect the kids, Spangler convinces the townspeople he just wants the children to have a merry Christmas—something they’ve never experienced, thanks in part to the nasty, tight-fisted Miss Grundy. Without hesitation, Miss Kitty organizes an elaborate party for the orphans at the Long Branch Saloon.
Just as they’re planning the festivities, Miss Grundy arrives and demands they stop immediately. As the orphans’ legal guardian, she is fully within her rights to refuse them any Christmas celebrations.
But the stern and stoic Miss Grundy doesn’t know what she’s in for. Because Miss Kitty Russell is not one to back down from a bully, and her scheme just might put Grundy the Grinch in her place.
