In the romantic, feel-good film Conagher, widowed pioneer Evie Teale (Katharine Ross) is left destitute in the middle of the frontier with her two children after her husband Jacob (Billy ‘Green’ Bush) dies during the family’s westward trek. Enter Sam Elliott as Conn Conagher, a cowboy with a heart of gold who meets Evie while she is waiting tables. Soon enough, they become fixtures in each other’s lives. In the process of overcoming threats from the natural world, outlaws, and natives, they also overcome loneliness.
Why We Like It: “We admire how this cowpoke embraces a widow and kids, and how the two lovebirds defend her ranch.”
