Timeless Values from America’s Favorite Family
In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, during the Great Depression, the Walton family finds encouragement, strength, and blessing in the ebb and flow of everyday life on Walton’s Mountain.
Each episode, narrated by series creator Earl Hamner as the older, wiser voice of John-Boy, is a nostalgic look back through the eyes of the young, aspiring novelist. Each story, taken from the pages of John-Boy’s journal, opens a window into the soul of a family tested and refined through adversity and disappointment.
Each season traces the experiences of John-Boy and his siblings as they face head on, with the support and love of family, the challenges of growing up: school, courtship, marriage, employment, birth, aging, illness and death.
Zebulon “Zeb” Tyler and Esther Walton guide and encourage John and Olivia Walton as they raise seven children during some of the most difficult times in the history of our nation and world.
Along the way Walton’s Mountain welcomes, sustains, and is enriched by a handful of colorful townsfolk, including: the Baldwin Sisters; General Mercantile owners Ike and Cora Beth Godsey (a distant Walton cousin); Sheriff “Ep” Bridges; Verdie Foster; and Yancy Tucker (a chicken thief and handyman with big plans but little motivation).
Starring Richard Thomas as John-Boy, Ralph Waite, Michael Learned, Will Geer and Ellen Corby.

John “John Boy’ Walton, Jr. (Richard Thomas)
“John-Boy,” as he is known to friends and family, is the oldest of seven children. A prolific writer and serious thinker, he fills his journal with thoughts on family, friends and life in general. John-Boy is usually mild-mannered, but capable of his father’s fiery temper in defense of his beliefs or his family.John Walton, Sr. (Ralph Waite)
John is hard-working and industrious, providing for his family by running a small sawmill on Walton’s Mountain. He’s good-natured, wise, and fearless; ready to take a stand and tell it like it is. Despite his Baptist roots, and in contrast to his wife, Olivia, John has a different take on what it means to know, love, and walk with God.Olivia Walton (Michael Learned)
Olivia is a soft-spoken, patient and loving wife, balancing out her tough-skinned, opinionated husband, John. She is gentle by nature, yet firm in discipline and unafraid to speak up when necessary. She is a devout Baptist, immersed in the life of her church and, therefore, typically the first person to take in a friend or stranger in need.Zebulon Tyler “Zeb/Grandpa” Walton (Will Geer)
He’s lovingly known as “Zeb” by his wife Esther, “Pa” by his son John, and “Grandpa” by the rest of the family. Grandpa cherishes his wife and prefers a simple life: working the saw-mill, fishing, botany, and playing with his grandkids. His easy-going, mischievous, and vibrant personality often finds him relaxing with the Baldwin sisters, happily sipping their “recipe.”Esther “Grandma” Walton (Ellen Corby)
Grandma is practical but feisty, quick-tempered, and sticks to the straight and narrow; but she gets done what needs to get done. She’s just as quick to give a “Good Lord” as she is to give a good hug. And she’s always ready to dispense a healthy dose of sound wisdom to family, friends, and strangers alike.Jason Walton (Jon Walmsley)
Jason is the musician of the family. Exceedingly good-natured and abundantly gifted, he’s content to be with family or to be alone with his music. Able on several instruments, he’s just as happy at the Kleinberg Conservatory as he is jamming with Bobby Bigelow and the Haystack Gang, or tickling the ivory down at the Dew Drop Inn.Mary Ellen Walton (Judy Norton)
Mary Ellen, third oldest child and the oldest daughter, is a conflicting mix of the whiny, vain, and typically girlish rival of Mary Rose Coverdale, and the rebellious tomboy vying for the affections of the awkward G.W. Haines. In later seasons Mary Ellen loses some of this childishness and matures into a wiser woman.Erin Esther Walton (Mary McDonough)
Erin is very close to her sister Mary Ellen, though they’re prone to a healthy, sisterly squabble from time to time. Erin is the pretty one, who fends off – and is protected from – one would be suitor after another! Erin’s challenges revolve around her beauty rather than her brain or brawn … she’s known as the “pin-up” rather than the scholar.Benjamin “Ben” Walton (Eric Scott)
Ben is reliably mischievous at exactly the wrong time! His strong work ethic falls prey to endless “get-rich-quick” schemes. In spite of this boyish bent for trouble, Ben is wholly dependable when he gives his word. When he elopes with Cindy his devotion is totally focused on their two children, Ginny (Virginia) and Charlie.James Robert “Jim-Bob” Walton (David W. Harper)
James Robert, or Jim-Bob to friends and family, is the youngest boy. He’s fascinated by aero planes and aspires to become a pilot. Poor eyesight sidelines that dream, but a fondness for tinkering with old cars and parts leads to building his first car from scratch. Eventually Jim-Bob opens an auto mechanic shop opposite Ike’s general store.Elizabeth Walton (Kami Cotler)
Elizabeth is the youngest of the seven Walton children, and a true inspiration as she grows from a very young child into a young woman during the course of the series. She is inquisitive, outspoken, and sensitive; a sharp intellect who shares John-Boy’s love of reading and knack for writing.Live Facebook Chat with Jon Walmsley
