Ben is reliably mischievous at exactly the wrong time! His strong work ethic falls prey to endless “get-rich-quick” schemes. In spite of this boyish bent for trouble, Ben is wholly dependable when he gives his word. When he elopes with Cindy his devotion is totally focused on their two children, Ginny (Virginia) and Charlie.

INSP viewers chose their favorite Walton – here’s what some said about Ben…

From ~ Patty, California

I like his charactar, who he is, as well as his humility when he gets caught doing something wrong, like playing cards w/ his friends in a house that was not his.  I like his courage to go out and try to be a man.  In one episode he worked at the competing wood mill but then quit when he knew they were competing with his father. I especially liked the episode where he made a wood bench for this Uncle Ben, whom he was named after as a memorial to his death in war.  Being a middle child, you are sometimes forgotten, but not Ben.  Though he may blend in, who his character really is makes him stand out.

From ~ Mariette, Texas

Ben is most like the average person.Somewhat displaced and rebellious, yet wanting to prove himself independent and grown-up.

From ~ Tony, Ohio

He shows a good combination of values, character, common sense, and hard work. He embraces being named for his uncle who died in war. He accepted Christ on the show.

From ~ Anne, Oklahoma

As a teen, Eric Scott was the cutest boy I’d ever seen.  As Ben Walton, he had compassion, integrity, honesty and a love for family that endeared him to me…and even when he was causing mischief, that sparkle in his eyes and the way he always put others feelings first, in the end, made him the best Walton!

From ~ Sonya, Georgia

He was always happy!

From ~ Amy, Ohio

Not the eldest, the tallest, the writer, the musician, or the nurse, nevertheless Ben Walton found his special place in the family. He matured to become an intelligent, caring, earnest and strong young man.  In addition, our son is named Ben!

From ~ Roberta, Texas

Because to me he is a loving caring brother, and no task is ever too big, and he is always happy.

From ~ Jill, Ohio

It is hard to pick just one because with the exception of John-Boy I really liked all the kids. I guess Ben because he was in the middle and often overlooked.  He just seemed like he cared about everyone.

From ~ Janet, California

Because I know Eric well -He is my nephew in law, and he is a reflection of every good thing  The Waltons represent.  I guess that makes me biased-but he is such a worthy and trusted friend to me.

From ~ Dennis, Arizona

I used to watch The Waltons in the 1970s. He reminds me of my brother Tom, always following me around like he does his brother Jason. Every year I look for the Homecoming, but it’s no longer on TV. This year I found a birds nest in the yard like Elizabeth did in the Homecoming.

From ~ Arthur, Michigan

He is the most realistic teen.  He isn’t afraid to act on what he thinks is right and learns the most from his mistakes, growing stronger for them.

From ~ Terri, North Carolina

I have to say Ben is one of my favorites.  He reminds me so much of my brother.  He is fun, always coming up with a plan and always takes chances.  He is the typical brother picking on his brothers and sisters but he shows so much love to them all.

From ~ Terry, Florida

I like Ben because he is always getting into different things trying to make a dollar only to fail much of the time, kinda like myself….

From ~ Timothy, Ohio

He is a true Walton.   No matter where he travels you know the morals and values of his family.

From ~ Denise, West Virginia

I feel that even though I am a girl there are times I feel like Ben.  It seems as though Ben was neglected at times.  He was in the middle, middle you could say. He was always there to help the family with anything and never complained.

From ~ Melissa, Virginia

Even though he wanted to go out into the world to make a life of his own, he returned home to help his father (John) and grandpa work in the mill.  That to me shows how much he loved his family and would do anything to help them in spite of his own wants.  In other words he put the needs of the family before his own wants.  You just do not find that in today’s society.

From ~ Pamela, Michigan

He’s cute, and he loved his wife.

From ~ Corine, Wisconsin

He is the middle child who seems to be searching for his calling in life.  He doesn’t seem to have a calling like John Boy, Mary Ellen or Jason.  When he joins John Boy in his newspaper business he starts to show the beginning of a business sense.  He is always there for his brothers and sisters and has a great sense of humor.

From ~ Phillip, Tennessee

Like me, Ben was never very tall and suffered the disadvantage of red hair.  Kids can be cruel to those that are a bit different.  Nevertheless, he was always helpful and positive in his attitude.  He was destined for success at whatever he chose to do.

From ~ Robert, Florida

Ben was an All-American kid, respectful, with common sense, and always willing to help. He developed a good sense of business at an early age, always trying something new.  Later, he helped with the family business.  He had a genuine personality and always put family first.

From ~ Diana, Tennessee

Ben is truly a Walton.  He loves whatever he puts his mind to.  No matter what happens he always stands up & proves he is a man.  He reminds me of my 14 year old, everyththing is taken with a grain of salt & then uses it to season his life.  He is the smallest of all the Walton’s but never let’s it get him down, where my son is the tallests but youngest.  When I think of red headed Ben, I see blonde headed Kelly.

From ~ Jessica, Pennsylvania

Mostly because he’s smart, funny, adorable, and always trying to make an easy buck! He always has something up his sleeve to get rich quick!

From ~ Karen, North Carolina

Ben is my favorite because he is like a brother that I never had.  I’ve always wanted a brother, and he would be perfect because he is funny, full of good ideas and is a caring person.

From ~ J, Delaware

In seveal eposodes Ben Walton expresses genuine compassion for people including Verdi (when she was robbed of the Christmas money that was to be used to purchase Christmas presents for disadgantaged children).  Ben replaced the money out of his own earnings.  Great guy!  His friendship with Yancy Tucker also demonstrated his non-discriminatory love for mankind regardless of wealth or their station in life.  Ben’s temper mirrored that of his father (John Walton).  In several eposodes, John was the only one who understood Ben’s temper and could help him to get back in control.  His high spirited life as a business man is commendable.  Ben Walton is one of my favorite characters.

From ~ Deborah, North Dakota

He’s a go-getter, always finding new ways to make money.  Also, he seems more average; he’s not trying to be perfect.  Besides I love that red hair!

From ~ Marsha, Michigan

Ben Walton is my favorite Walton.  I like how he is always coming up with ideas to make money; and he looks like my grandson.

From ~ Helen, California
