500,000 meals have been served and 30 water purification units have been installed in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Indian Land, SC – The 7.0-magnitude earthquake that rocked the nation of Haiti on January 12th has resulted in unprecedented humanitarian support from around the world. Donations in small and large amounts continue to trickle in; volunteer medical teams perform life-saving surgeries; and rescue workers miraculously pull survivors from mounds of rubble, providing hope when it seems that all hope is gone.

Inspiration Ministries is among the organizations that reacted immediately following the quake by working with its Humanitarian partner, Convoy of Hope, and ministry partners on the ground to set up an emergency command center just outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. These efforts have resulted in nine operational sites that have served 500,000 meals and installed 30 water purification units for much-needed drinking water. Inspiration Ministries Executive Vice President Ossie Mills said that these efforts are part of the Ministry’s long-term commitment to Haiti.

“Many of Haiti’s nearly 10 million residents already lived in abject poverty before the earthquake,” said Mills. “Prior to this recent disaster, Inspiration Ministries supported the feeding of more than 7,000 Haitian children each day. Now, the need is even greater. We will continue our commitment to this nation in the weeks and months ahead as it works toward recovery.”

Kevin Rose, Haiti Director of Convoy of Hope, says that while there have been pockets of success, conditions on the ground remain tense. “The situation regarding food and water remains dire,” says Rose. “The lack of fuel and security issues has made it very difficult to move food around the city. But through our network of partners we are getting food into some of the most desperate places.”

In addition to meeting physical needs in Haiti, Mills also said that Inspiration Ministries is committed to providing spiritual support, saying, “Our distinctive is to provide prayer with the items that are distributed. In one day, over 3,500 people were prayed for onsite. You hear of the riots, but tremendous ministry also is taking place.”

Donations for the Haitian relief efforts can be made by calling 866-310-5226 or visiting http://www.inspirationtoday.com/insptoday/haiti.aspx for secure, online donations. All donations will help meet the immediate needs of victims of the earthquake and will continue to meet humanitarian needs as they arise in the coming months. For prayer requests, call 803-578-1800. Prayer lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Launched on October 24th, Halogen is available in more than 12 million digital cable homes across the country. Rebekah “Becky” Henderson will serve as General Manager of the network, overseeing day-to-day operations.

“We are very excited to announce the launch of Halogen,” said Airy. “We’ve spent more than two years researching and defining the Halogen brand and found that this network fills a real void in the marketplace. There are more than 70 million 18 – 34 year olds in the United States, and more than 40 million identify themselves as being ‘socially conscious.’ We believe that we are tapping into an emerging community that will be responsive to this network, its programs, and the greater good that it promotes on a larger scale.”

Airy said that Halogen is advertising-supported and will launch with hundreds of hours of original and exclusive licensed content that spans drama, comedy, reality, documentary, and magazine show genres. “Responding to the requests of distributors, Halogen is launching in both Standard Definition and High Definition. By the first of 2010, Halogen will offer a companion VOD service.”

Airy commented that Halogen will meet the multiplatform viewing expectations of this demographic. “Our research showed that this demographic, more than any other, expects content to be available when they want it, and where they want it. Halogen’s linear presence will be supplemented by a robust online extension, www.halogentv.com that offers a variety of web content and social media interaction. Mobile extensions also are being planned for 2010.”

Halogen GM Becky Henderson added that the network redefines the inspirational genre for a new generation. “Halogen doesn’t abandon the genre, just looks at it from a different perspective. This is a new kind of inspiration, expressed through social consciousness.

“Our generation is very diverse but there is common ground that unites us. We have a longing for justice, a desire for meaningful relationships; a drive to live a life of true significance and a delight for art and culture. These are the common values that provide the foundation for our content. It also is no accident that we have chosen to launch Halogen 24/7 on October 24, 2009. This is ‘national make a difference day’ and Halogen is committed both to make a difference as a network and empower our viewers to leave their mark on the world.”

Airy said that private meetings have taken place with distribution partners. “This excitement also has translated to our distribution partners, who are interested in what Halogen brings to the marketplace. It is clear that Halogen has tapped an underserved market. We look forward to building upon our community of viewers.”

At the time of its launch, Halogen will replace i-Lifetv. “i-Lifetv has been a pioneering, lifestyle network. But our research and feedback from consumers and our distribution partners demonstrated that it was time for a new vision. Halogen carries on the tradition begun by i-Lifetv, but with an exciting, new focus, and a new programming philosophy. Perhaps most beneficial, Halogen targets an underserved demographic group, meeting the needs not only of the market but also of our distribution partners.”

Halogen launched on Galaxy 15 and is uplinked from MediaComm, the wholly owned production subsidiary of The Inspiration Networks in Charlotte, NC. The MediaComm production center is one of the most technologically advanced in the Southeast U.S. with clients that have included Fox, Speed Channel, NASCAR, and Bank of America. The program, “The Basement 360,” follows leaders of “The Basement,” a popular Birmingham, AL-based ministry event.

Indian Land, SC – INSP – The Inspiration Network today announced that it will launch a new reality TV program from Steelroots, one of the leading providers of positive content for young people. The program, called “The Basement 360,” centers on “The Basement,” a popular ministry event in Birmingham, AL led by evangelist Matt Pitt that attracts thousands of people each service. The series airs on INSP Saturdays at 11:00pm and 24/7 at www.steelroots.com. (Click here to watch the series).

Bill Airy, COO for The Inspiration Networks, said that the new program reflects the success INSP has had since launching the Steelroots- produced reality series “The Uprising” in the fall of 2008.

“’The Uprising’ proved that there is a market for faith-based reality programs for the youth market,” said Airy. “This demographic has responded very positively to ‘The Uprising,’ and we expect that this will continue with ‘The Basement 360.’

“Both programs focus on bold personalities that have overcome hardships in their lives, and younger viewers respect the realness of their stories and their advice on how to live a life of faith.”

“The Basement 360” follows Pitt and his team from The Basement – Casey Holland, Ike Ubasineke, and Justin Standridge – as they take a radical approach to ministry with an in-your-face message of hope and encouragement. Pitt, a former drug dealer and addict, launched The Basement in 2004 after a shape-up-or-ship-out ultimatum from his parents and what he describes as “a dramatic encounter with God in his parent’s basement.” Described by some as part church service, concert, and club, The Basement attracts thousands from all walks of life to Birmingham’s Church of the Highlands on the last Tuesday of every month to hear messages from Pitt along with live Christian Hip Hop music performed by local artists and some of the biggest names in Christian music.

Steelroots is adding “The Basement 360” to a solid line-up of award-winning programs that appeal to young people in-and-outside of church. Steelroots produces a variety of original, cutting edge programs that include the music series, “Countdown,” its flagship series “Steelroots – The Show,” and its newest hit, “The Uprising,” a reality TV series featuring pro skateboarders Jay Haizlip, Christian Hosoi, and Brian Sumner.

INSP is available in 57 million homes across the US on more than 2,400 cable systems and on DIRECTV channel 364 and DISH Network channel 259. Viewers can check their local program guides for channel line up information. “The Basement 360” also will air internationally on INI – Inspiration Network International. INI reaches more than 80 million homes worldwide in 118 nations.

New season of popular reality TV series debuts October 17th. Watch a clip, view host bios, and download “The Uprising” banners, wallpapers, and Twitter backgrounds at: http://www.steelroots.com/theuprising/.

Indian Land, SC – Steelroots today announced that it will debut the second season of its hit reality TV series “The Uprising” on Saturday, October 17th at 11:30pm EST on INSP – The Inspiration Network. The series also can be viewed online 24/7 at www.steelroots.com.

The announcement was made by Bryan Smerdon, Director of Programming for Steelroots. “Our vision is to produce relevant content for today’s youth. We have been very excited about the response to ‘The Uprising.’ And we are very pleased to announce this new season.” Steelroots is one of the leading producers of television programs targeting Christian youth and young adults, and one of the few media-based ministries focusing on action sports.

“The Uprising” follows pro skaters Jay Haizlip, Christian Hosoi, and Brian Sumner as they preach the Gospel message in unlikely places like skate parks, prisons, schools, and other hangouts. The series is filmed throughout the California area and also internationally in places like the Cayman Islands and U.K.

“'The Uprising’ has touched a nerve in popular culture,” said Hosoi. “We’ve been amazed by the feedback from the first season among people of all levels of faith and mainstream and faith media outlets. This series has literally touched people from all walks of life across the world. It’s been great to work with Steelroots, Jay, and Brian to continue the revolution of using new ways to bring the Gospel to broken people.”

Haizlip says that viewers can expect the trio to take their ministry even further during the new season. “The new episodes focus more on the stories behind the people we encounter during ministry,” he says. “We get into the real hardships people face – everyone from drug addicts to ex gang members. There will be real, raw stories that make viewers seem like they are right in the room ministering with us. This season will be surreal.”

Sumner says that one surprise during the first season of “The Uprising” was the support from the skateboarding community. “The feedback from in-and-outside the skateboarding community and action sports in general has been great. A lot of our friends got behind us during the first season and we had a lot of cameo appearances from popular athletes. Hopefully, the new season will continue to inspire our current viewers and attract others who will benefit from the series’ positive messages.”

“The Uprising” joins original programs from Steelroots that include “Countdown,” “The Steelroots Show,” and specials featuring popular athletes and music artists. For more information visit www.steelroots.com.

INSP is available in more than 57 million U.S. households via more than 2,400 cable systems and on DIRECTV channel 364 and DISH Network channel 259. Internationally, the program will air on Inspiration Network International reaching over 80 million homes worldwide in more than 118 countries. Ministry provides free practice facilities for six local soccer teams at the City of Light.

Indian Land, SC – Inspiration Ministries today announced that an agreement has been reached with the Indian Land Soccer Club (ILSC) to allow its six teams to practice on the Ministries’ City of Light campus.

“Inspiration Ministries filled a major need for the kids in our community,” said Ryan Nelson, the Executive Director of Operations for ILSC. “As we approached the start of our fall season, and the status of the Edenmor Facility was still up in the air, there was simply not enough space for both ILSC and Lancaster County Parks and Recreation football and soccer programs to practice. We had tried many avenues to secure space and were delighted when Inspiration Ministries responded to an email request about providing the facilities ILSC needed.” Nelson said that the agreement provided portable restrooms and the ability to set up goals and line fields. In addition to allowing ILSC to use the Facility, Inspiration Ministries sponsored the ILSC U11 team and continues to work with ILSC on improving the turf for soccer play. “This really is an ideal arrangement. It’s good for our kids and their families. We often have many ILSC parents going for walks or runs within the beautiful facility. It is a safe location and it’s right in the heart of Indian Land. We look forward to forming a long-term partnership between ILSC and Inspiration Ministries.”

“We were delighted to be able to help our neighbors,” said Lisa Mouradian, Inspiration Ministries’ Events Manager for The City of Light. “This was a perfect partnership. It has been such a joy to see kids practicing at the City of Light.”

Mouradian said that this is just the latest effort fulfilling the Ministry’s commitment to the local community. “Since we opened our headquarters here in early 2008, we have been looking for ways to serve the community. We currently are working with local schools on ways to teach students the latest about television and other media. We have held free worship events in our Inspiration Chapel, which has been a real blessing to many in the community. And recently, we began opening our Chapel and other facilities to churches, individuals, and groups who want a location for seminars, weddings, and other events. Much more activity will be taking place in the coming months.”
