Jason is the musician of the family. Exceedingly good-natured and abundantly gifted, he’s content to be with family or to be alone with his music. Able on several instruments, he’s just as happy at the Kleinberg Conservatory as he is jamming with Bobby Bigelow and the Haystack Gang, or tickling the ivory down at the Dew Drop Inn.
INSP viewers chose their favorite Walton – here’s what some said about Jason…
From ~ Betty, Nebraska
Jason is so talented. My mom and I used to be so jealous of his piano playing and singing. He appreciated all styles of music, enjoying the classics while appreciating his roots in country and bluegrass. He also was a sensitive soul, but felt a duty to serve his country through the National Guard to help earn money to continue his music education. Dedicated to his family and his faith, he was an inspiration to me as I grew into a young adult and parent.
From ~ Audrey, Georgia
We like his guitar and musical abilities. He just seems like a nice guy. At the same time, he knows how to stand up for himself and won’t back down if he feels strongly about something. I loved the time when he got in trouble for starting a fire with the trash and it was really Tip. He didn’t say anything even though he knew he couldn’t have possibly started it.
From ~ Lisa, Georgia
The gift of music runs way back in both sides of my family, and continues to this present day. Jason deciding to pursue his music as a career against all odds reminds me of the challenges we’ve all faced in a world where athletes get paid more than our government officials and teachers. Plus, Jason has that wise old soul sort of wisdom…and a big heart.
From ~ Cara, Illinois
Jason was creative, hardworking, devoted to his music, and outgoing. He was willing to stand up for what he believed.
From ~ Jessica, Massachusetts
I loved his character and how he was always the shy, kind-hearted one.
From ~ Darryl, Ohio
Jason was always a favorite on The Waltons because of his musical career. Playing guitar made me watch this show over and over. I wish i could play guitar as good as he did, I get close to his playing, on some songs.
From ~ Julie, Pennsylvania
I can relate to his passion for music; as a child, and now as an adult singing and playing the flute.
From ~ Annemarie, Delaware
Because he is so musical, and has that gorgeous red hair!
From ~ Teresa, Texas
He was quiet and wise; he watched and learned from others. He had the ambition to go for his career choice in music during a time when it was thought to be a hobby and not a career.
From ~ Angie, Pennsylvania
I am a musician and performing artist who grew up in a small town with big dreams. I can also relate to the struggles he faced being an artist with parents who couldn’t quite understand his dreams, but they still offered their love and support.
From ~ Linda, Texas
I was so touched by him; I named my first son Jason … So glad I did.
From ~ Carolyn, Virginia
I always liked Jason best because he was so musical. I was learning how to play to piano myself while The Waltons were originally on and he played so well that it was an inspiration for me to keep practicing.
From ~ Joseph, Colorado
During the years that I was growing up, one of the only escapes from the conditions of poverty and low self-esteem was music and musicianship. My opportunity to become a musician at the age of 10, along with my older brother, was because my upbringing paralleled Jason Walton’s! Jason was my inspiration during difficult years when I was young. I still watch episodes today and am still inspired when I watch Jason on INSP.
From ~ Jan, Pennsylvania
I like Jason the most because he reminds me of my own son in so many ways. They are so polite, so caring, and sweet. The way Jason loves his brothers and sisters, and of course his parents and grandparents, is something so rare to see portrayed both then and now. My son is exactly the same. They even look alike, it’s amazing to me.
From ~ Sharon, Texas
Jason is often overlooked and ignored since he is quiet and loves his music. He has a gentle soul and a peaceful heart and is loyal to the people in his life.
From ~ Shiela, Pennsylvania
Love his music!! And he never seemed to mind the he wasn’t the oldest. His special relationship with Grandma was so heartwarming. Jon Walmsley captured the character perfectly!
From ~ Wendy, Indiana
Because he’s very talented and has a level head when it comes to everyday living. When Grandpa Walton was in the hospital and Jason sang to him brought tears to my eyes.
From ~ Arlene, California
I like the way he follows through with his music. He has learned at a young age to commit himself to what he loves. He is willing to work at it, and include others. He is very thoughtful of others; he is the kind of boy a mother would want her daughter to bring home. It was hard to choose a favorite Walton they are all special in their own way. Jason has light that shines from his heart that gives others a special feeling.
From ~ Elizabeth, California
I always thought of Jason as my favorite Walton because he was the big brother I wished I could have. He wasn’t “in charge” like John-Boy, so he didn’t have to be bossy. But he was always there to talk to and he cared about his family. He let his feelings show through his music and his kindness and tenderness. I always liked music and thought how cool it would be to sit and talk to him about music. I actually saw this contest yesterday and was thinking about my answer but my daughter and I were going to Disneyland for the day so I didn’t have a chance to enter. Then guess who we saw, and I got my picture taken with!!! The very one I always admired! Jon Walmsley. It made my day complete!
From ~ John, Virginia
I like Jason because of his level headedness. He is good at controlling his temper. I also like Jason for his musical talent.
From ~ Susan, Massachusetts
His passion for music….he tried to relate music to all areas of his life. No matter what the problem or crisis, music always fit into whatever was going on.
From ~ Renee, Virginia
Jason is the sensitive musician. I love music, especially the music played on the show. The traditional, folk and bluegrass are my favorites. I currently live in Virginia, due to a military transfer, and the roots of this music run deep here. I can never get enough of the segments where Jason is playing an instrument and singing. I also appreciate what a hard worker Jason is. He works for what he wants and pursues his art. I write song lyrics myself and am trying to learn the guitar on my own. Many of the people that I spend time with are folk musicians. Jason represents that world very well. Of course, his character comes off as a sweet kid, who is well mannered and treats people right. I like that.
From ~ Elizabeth, Indiana
I have appreciated all the characters, but at this time I seem to favor Jason. I appreciate his gentle nature and quiet pursuit of his interests without a self-centered attitude.
From ~ Mary, Mississippi
He stands up for what he believes in even when it is unpopular. He’s not afraid to be just who he is. — Jason Walton.
From ~ Patsy, North Carolina
Jason is always “level headed” and so respectful of everyone. A quite type, not “hot headed” like some of the siblings, always shows love to parents, grandparents and brothers and sisters. He seems to be very good hearted and extremely well mannered, works hard and his character shows deep love for music. Just the kind of son everyone would want. Has a beautiful smile!
