Daniel Boone may be the most famous explorer of Kentucky, but frontiersman James Harrod is the first to have established a settlement there: Harrod’s Town. The thriving outpost, which is also the first European settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains, soon draws the attention of wide-eyed, would-be settlers, as well as Native American tribes intent on repelling these foreigners frothier traditional hunting grounds. When vengeful warriors besiege Harrod’s Town, settlers begin to run out of food and gunpowder, and Harrod must sneak out under the cover of darkness to bring back provisions to help them survive. Upon his return, Harrod learns that the daughter of a fallen friend has been kidnapped by the Shawnee, and he heads out alone o attempt a daring rescue.
