#6 The Typewriter
John-Boy receives a disappointing reply from a magazine: they don’t accept handwritten manuscripts. Crestfallen, John-Boy secretly borrows a typewriter from the Baldwin sisters, their “treasured possession.” Knowing his mother will not approve, he hides it in a box in the shed. Mary Ellen innocently sells the contents of the shed. John-Boy finally faces the Baldwin sisters, who graciously suffer the loss.
