American cowboy, Matt Quigley, is known for his keen eye and ability to accurately hit targets at extraordinary distances using his specially modified 1874 Sharps Buffalo Rifle. So when he sees an ad in the paper, placed by Australian rancher, Elliot Marston, seeking men with talent for long distance shooting, the sharpshooter replies. Soon he’s on his way down under, and just as he arrives, he’s already involved in a scuffle, a foreshadowing of what he’s in for.Tom Selleck in Quigley Down Under

Quigley fights off a group of men who are taunting a woman known as “Crazy Cora,” trying to get her onto their wagon. As it turns out, these are the very men sent by Elliot Marston to escort Quigley to the ranch where he will be working. Cora has had a mental breakdown after suffering a tragedy in her past, and after Quigley saves her, she seems to think he’s her estranged husband.

At the ranch, Quigley learns Marston is infatuated with America’s cowboys and the Old West, and practices his quick-draw gunslinger skills regularly. He is adequately impressed by Quigley’s tales and his shooting ability. Quigley seems to be signing on to a good job. But when he hears the details of the assignment, his anger begins to rise.

Marston’s targets are the native Aborigines who live according to their traditions on the land around Marston’s ranch, the land their ancestors inhabited for centuries. Quigley refuses to commit murder, and now the man who minutes ago admired him, the man who would be his boss is a deadly enemy. A brutal fight breaks out, and sets off a bitter cat and mouse chase, with Marston bent on destroying Quigley and Cora, at all costs. But Quigley and Cora discover some unlikely allies and they’re heading full steam ahead into a do-or-die confrontation with Marston and his henchmen.
